The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
