The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Critical Role Song
This latest animated series, the newest animated adventure from Critical Role, unveiled an exciting opening credits. It features our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues kicking ass and making their mark, while also hinting at several heart-wrenching backstories for characters including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, the character Fjord.
Overall, the opening appears stunning. However, I felt that an element was missing in the music selection.
The intro employs "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. This piece originating from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release released by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label their music brand. It's a great sentimental choice, and I believe that devotees of the sequel series will appreciate its presence.
Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening fails to capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the second campaign's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", written by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was first revealed in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder Sam Riegel wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.
Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the song was catchy and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. This track that excites you before you start an installment of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes for me. It's an impressive composition, but from what I know of the group, I can't help but feel that its tone is a little off.
Naturally, Critical Role has already said that the series will have a few changes and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its intro appears as one of them.
The Mighty Nein will be released on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to learn about the personas of the second series, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
