The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Season on BBC
The beloved police drama AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh installment, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-part season created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, according to the network.
The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together next year."
The last season wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been widespread for some time, but official word only came recently.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain working to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case to date."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for busts of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to become a offender.
However, his case could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the background, plot details hinted.
In a statement, the creator commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers watch the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor described being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the people I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he said.
Vicky McClure remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited the show is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor noted: "As we count down the AC-12 return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together soon."
