The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror That Blends Survival Horror with Among Us Gameplay
The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed a number of intriguing upcoming titles, but one in particular has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.
"It's a unique game where a girl harboring multiple human souls within her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.
Entering a Shattered Mind
In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of teenage years. Inside her reside four separate souls, each with unique fears and drives. These entities can seize control spontaneously, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her suddenly.
Based on showcased footage, much of the narrative unfolds within a eerie hospital, though additional clips show the protagonist navigating a desolate chapel.
An Environment of Personal Dread
"What makes you afraid of? What causes you uncomfortable?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. People in power. Things that seem trivial to others can activate something primal within us. This game explores that idea — fears that are unique to every individual."
The core gameplay loop involves managing the persona that emerges at a particular time. However, these souls will change involuntarily as you play. While exploring, each soul's fears become exaggerated and attack the protagonist in succession. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player experiences.
Unsettling Visuals and a Deadly Choice
At first glance, UN:Me displays striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is populated by nurses all sporting the identical visage, with disturbingly broad smiles. Figures in the waiting room have large flowers where their heads should be. Floral motifs are a recurring element, juxtaposing organic elegance with supernatural dread.
Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls inhabiting the protagonist is the "real" one. "All four souls asserts that the physical form belongs to them," notes a creator. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is real."
After a player have deduced a persona is fake, they are forced to destroy it. However, because every entity can deceive or obfuscate the truth, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.
"Maybe you've already eliminated the true [soul] with your own hands," a voice suggests. "The final entity standing could be a fake. In any case, your decisions are irreversible."
UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed release date, but it is available to wishlist on digital storefronts.
