‘Oh How We Will Miss This Man’: Meg Ryan Posts Heartfelt Homage to Director Rob Reiner

Meg Ryan has posted a tribute to the late filmmaker Rob Reiner, who was her director in the beloved romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.

A Heartbreaking Event

Reiner was discovered deceased alongside his spouse, Michele Singer Reiner, at their residence in LA this past weekend.

“We will miss this man so deeply…” the actress posted on Instagram, next to an image of them together. “Our gratitude, Rob and Michele, for your faith in true love, stories, and joy. Thank you for your faith in the best in people, and for your profound love of our country.”

Legal Proceedings Unfold

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, faces two counts of first-degree murder and appeared in court today. He’s being detained without the option of bail. Sources state that Reiner’s daughter Romy found her father’s body.

“It is my belief that from this horror, positive change and understanding can emerge,” Ryan continued. “While uncertain, I suspect they'd wish for a hopeful, compassionate outcome that fosters mutual understanding and peace.”

Children Share Their Grief

Reiner’s other children Jake and Romy released a message today. “No words can convey the constant, profound sorrow we feel,” they said. “Losing our parents in such a horrific way is a devastation beyond comprehension. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

Hollywood Tributes Pour In

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, also paid tribute to Reiner through a message shared yesterday alongside tributes from Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“His comedic touch was beyond compare, his love of getting the music of the dialogue just right, and his sharpening of the edge of a drama was simply elegant,” the tribute noted. “For the actors, he loved them. For the writers he made them better. His finest trait was granting creative liberty. He valued input and made you part of the team. They always felt they were working as a team. To be in his hands as a film-maker was a privilege but that is only part of his legacy.”

A Storied Career

When Harry Met Sally was a box office and critical triumph in 1989, earning over $93 million globally and scoring Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner was introduced to Michele Singer Reiner during the production of When Harry Met Sally. The pair were connected through Barry Sonnenfeld, a friend and director.

Reiner’s notable filmography also included classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were married for 36 years.
